Bespoke Mosaic Signage
Tailored and sculpted for setting and story
All our signs are made to Carolyn Ash’s refined high-intricacy standard, where attention to detail and material sensitivity shape each piece. Whether it’s a house number, a business sign, or a bespoke commemorative plaque, every commission is crafted as a unique artwork.
- House signs and numbering – from compact tiles to larger, ornamental pieces
- Business signage – elegant, durable, and expressive, tailored to reflect identity
- Standard and irregular shapes – including circles, ovals, and custom contours
- Personal inclusions – items such as crockery or heirlooms can be embedded
- Exceptional sculptural cutting available – for incorporating unusual materials or complex forms that require advanced handling beyond standard mosaic practice
Our mosaics are not just signs—they’re lasting works with presence, texture, and story. Pricing reflects the intricacy, individuality, and time required for each piece.

Commissioning Process
1. Choose the type of sign you’d like — house number, name, business, or commemorative
2. Share preferred shape, size, and colours
3. Carolyn will develop a design sketch, tailoring layout and form
4. Materials are selected — cut, shaped, and tested for the composition
5. Your unique mosaic sign is carefully crafted, then delivered or installed as arranged
Each mosaic is handcut, piece by piece — from cutting and shaping the substrate and every tessera to assembling, grouting, and finishing. Please allow 4 to 10 weeks for completion depending on the scale and intricacy of the piece.
As professional artists and working artisans, we often balance multiple commissions, community works, and site-based projects. Lead times will be discussed clearly at the start, and we’ll always aim to accommodate your preferred timeline where possible.
Mounting & Installation
All mosaics are supplied as wall-hung pieces by default, suitable for both indoor and outdoor display.
If you require:
• freestanding installation
• insets for plaster, brick, or rendering
• framed or sealed-edge formats
...these are all possible and can be discussed during commissioning, as they may influence materials and construction from the outset.
Weather-Resilience
All signage mosaics are built for long-term outdoor display using weather-resistant boards, exterior-grade adhesives, sealants, and grouts. While made to withstand the UK climate, continual exposure — especially to freeze-thaw cycles and driving rain — ...may, over time, require touch-up or minor repair — part of the natural life of a handcrafted object exposed to the elements. Unlike portable artworks, signage remains exposed by design. For this reason, we offer optional repair and review packages, or are happy to advise on care and upkeep, ensuring your mosaic remains a lasting part of its setting.
Detail & Materials
• All pieces exhibit a refined high level of intricacy, featuring artisan tessellation, colour blending, and mixed media.
• We work with a broad range of found and traditional materials — and are glad to incorporate your own.
